Why this market is hot in 2026

KVIC reported a turnover of ₹1.34 lakh crore in FY24, with Khadi products showing consistent growth, driven by government initiatives and increasing consumer preference for sustainable and indigenous products. The 'Khadi Mask' initiative during the pandemic significantly boosted Khadi's visibility and market acceptance. KVIC Annual Report FY24, PIB May 2026

The Indian textile and apparel market is projected to reach $190 billion by 2026. Within this, the 'sustainable fashion' and 'natural fibre' segments are experiencing double-digit growth, creating a niche for Khadi products like masks, which align with eco-conscious consumer trends. Government procurement via GeM also provides a stable demand channel for certified Khadi products. Invest India, IBEF Textile Industry Report, May 2026

Industrial scenario (2026)

KVIC reported a turnover of ₹1.34 lakh crore in FY24, with Khadi products showing consistent growth, driven by government initiatives and increasing consumer preference for sustainable and indigenous products. The 'Khadi Mask' initiative during the pandemic significantly boosted Khadi's visibility and market acceptance. The Indian textile and apparel market is projected to reach $190 billion by 2026. Government procurement via GeM also provides a stable demand channel for certified Khadi products. BharatSeal's editorial layer (12 'Hot in 2026' + 10 'Starter-friendly' tags) places this project in the wider 2026 Indian MSME landscape. Macro tailwinds include current PMEGP margin-money (15% urban, 25% rural, 35% special-category) plus the relevant sector schemes flagged below.

Basis & presumption of report

This DPR is prepared on the basis of BharatSeal's live market_inputs snapshot dated 2026-05-15, with capex prices, raw-material rates, wages, fuel, electricity and rent values resolved from primary public sources cited in Section 19. Plant capacity is 1,50,000 mask/year. Working capital cycle is 3 months. Bank loan is sized at 75% of project cost over 5 years at 9.75% p.a., with PMEGP margin money assumed at 15% and beneficiary contribution at 10%. Depreciation follows the asset-specific lives in Section 16. Income tax is provided at 25% on positive PBT. Sundry debtors and creditors are taken at 15-day equivalents of revenue and COGS respectively — Indian MSME finance norm. The 5-year utilisation ramp is editorial (BharatSeal industry benchmark) and is the largest single judgement in the model — three scenarios (Section 6) and a sensitivity grid (Section 7) stress-test it.
