The Government of Uttar Pradesh has focused on developing solar energy due to limited conventional energy reserves, environmental impacts, energy security, and climate change challenges. Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology is an attractive option with abundant solar resources, modular technology, and zero fuel costs over its lifespan. The government aims to achieve 10700 MW of solar capacity by 2022, with 4300 MW from decentralized and rooftop-scale solar projects. Power generated from solar plants can meet household needs, with surplus fed into the grid. Rooftop SPV systems can also replace DG gensets during load shedding. The price of solar power is competitive with commercial tariffs. In grid-connected systems, DC power from SPV panels is converted to AC power and fed into the grid.
