Description
May is the start of the southwest monsoon, but the east coast of Sri Lanka remains sunny and dry, making places like Arugam Bay, Trincomalee, and Pasikudah perfect for beach vacations. Arugam Bay, in particular, is a top surfing destination at this time. The national parks, including Yala and Udawalawe, offer excellent wildlife spotting before the rains pick up in the south and west. The country also celebrates Vesak Poya, a major Buddhist festival where streets and temples are decorated with lanterns, creating a unique cultural experience.
