Description

Magnesium is the most efficient DS compound for Hot Metal Desulphurisation. Earlier it was used as a mono injection compound because of its high reactivity. Nowadays it is used in co-injection with either Fluidized Lime or Calcium Carbide. To be used in Hot metal ladle at Hot Metal Desulphurisation Station. The treatment is mostly performed through pneumatic conveying system, N2 as a conveying media using dip-lance injection. To get the best results it should be injected with lime or calcium carbide. Magnesium based DS Reagent has a boiling point of 1105 °C. So when it comes in contact with hot metal (1250 °C - 1450 °C) it vaporises. Magnesium gas dissolves into liquid iron and then it reacts with the dissolved S in the hot metal. The reaction is mainly gas/liquid reaction. Reaction is as follows: Mg + Fes = Mgs + Fe Mgs + CaO = Cas + Mgo

HOW IT WORKS

Magnesium based DS Reagent has a boiling point of 1105 °C. So when it comes in contact with hot metal (1250 °C - 1450 °C) it vaporises. Magnesium gas dissolves into liquid iron and then it reacts with the dissolved S in the hot metal. The reaction is mainly gas/liquid reaction. Reaction is as follows: Mg + Fes = Mgs + Fe Mgs + CaO = Cas + Mgo
