NSE started trading in the equities segment (Capital Market segment) on November 3, 1994 and within a short span of a year became the largest stock exchange in India in terms of volumes transacted. NSE is ranked as the second largest stock exchange globally in terms of number of equity trades, as per World Federation of Exchange (WFE) Report - 2024. Trading volumes in the equity segment have grown rapidly with average daily turnover increasing from Rs.17 crores during 1994-95 to around Rs. 1,12,963 crores during 2024-25. NSE has over 2700 securities listed on NSE with market capitalisation of over Rs 410.9 lakh Crores, as of Mar 2025.
