Pattern / Segmented Metallisation. Capacitor films featuring a divided metallised surface are termed pattern or segmented or safety films. These intricate patterns are formed using an oil masking technique during the metallisation process. The segmented metallised areas are insulated by masked lines and connected by fuses. If there is a fault in any of the segments, the fuses blow and separate the rest of the metallised area, thereby acting as an in-built safety feature. Suitable for consumer applications such as Lighting, Fan Regulator and Appliance Capacitors.
