- Zinc(Zn) It helps in carbohydrate transformation and to increase enzyme activities. It helps to accelerate maturity in plants. Deficiency of Zinc leads to delayed maturity in plants. The most visible symptoms are short internodes and decreased leaf size. Zinc uptake by plants decreases with increased soil pH and if High levels of phosphorous, Iron are available in soil.
- Ferrous (Fe) It is associated with sulphur in plants to form compounds that catalyse other reactions. It also helps in plant respiration. Deficiency of ferrous leads to yellowing of leaves due to low levels of chlorophyll. Ferrous is deficient in calcareous - High pH Soils. Poorly aerated soils reduce Iron uptake by plants.
- Manganese (Mn) It helps in formation of tissues and enzymes in plants. Deficiency of manganese leads to delayed maturity, whitish grey spots on leaves, shortened internodes resulting in brown necrotic spots on leaves and finally leads to premature leaf drop. Manganese is deficient in high pH soils, sandy soils, soils with low in organic matter.
- Boron (B) It helps in cell wall formation of plants. It also helps in Sugar transport in plants, flower retention, pollen formation and germination. Deficiency of Boron leads to stunted appearance, barren ears due to poor pollination, hollow stems, frit (hollow heart), brittle, discolored leaves and loss of fruiting bodies. Deficiency also leads to splitting of final produce (Necrosis). Boron uptake by plants decreases in Acid soils and sandy soil regions with high rainfall.
- Copper (Cu) It helps in photosynthetic process of the plants. Deficiency of copper leads to dieback symptoms in stems, twigs, yellowing of leaves, stunted growth and pale green leaves that wither easily. Copper uptake decreases in High pH soils and is also affected in soils with increased levels of phosphorous and iron.
- Magnesium (Mg) It is a part of chlorophyll, and it is important in providing energy rich compounds for growth and development of plants. It helps to accelerate germination and maturity. Deficiency of magnesium leads to intrarenal chlorosis. Magnesium is deficient in low and very high pH soils. Magnesium uptake decreases in Alkali soils.
