Leather Working Group (LWG) is a global not-for-profit multi-stakeholder organisation that is committed to building a world where leather is sourced, produced and used sustainably, protecting people and the planet. Leather Working Group sets Audit Standards for leather manufacturers to be assessed and certified – this recognises best practice and drives improvements in the industry. Over a third of global finished leather production is assessed using the LWG Audit Standard. LWG was formed in 2005 when a group of brands and leather manufacturers came together with the common objective of reducing the environmental impact of the leather industry – and today it works towards that common goal by collaborating with brands, leather manufacturers and NGOs.
