MCPI has been a leading provider of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) in India for more than two decades now. Endowed with the proprietary Mitsubishi Chemicals Technology, it has been providing best-in-class PTA to downstream Polyester industries- i.e., Yarn, PET, and PET Film. MCPI’s PTA unit has an annual capacity of 1.27 MTPA and is located in the industrial town of Haldia in West Bengal. In November 2016, The Chatterjee Group (TCG), led by Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee, acquired MCPI from Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC). Since then, there has been a spectacular turnaround of the business of the company. In this period, the company has recorded the highest capacity utilization, highest sales, and highest profitability consistently year after year. The acquisition of GSMPL has led to opportunities for expansion in the Polyester Yarn segment. Furthermore, this is a window to further scaling up consumer-centric Fabric and Garments business – diversifying into the fast-moving apparels business and e-commerce.
