Description
Benzene-Free Hydrocarbon Aerosol Propellant "BENZENE FREE HAP" CANCER A deadly, fearful, and frightening thing to happen to any person. Skin cancer is of the same family as Leukaemia. Benzene has been detected in minute quantity in aerosol sprays, mainly in skin care products such as sunscreen lotion, body deo, and medicated sprays. Benzene is a clear, colourless liquid with a sweet petroleum like odour. Odour alone is not a detriment or potentially hazardous. Benzene is on the Right to Know hazardous substances list because it is cited by OSHA, ACGIH, DOT, NIOSH, NTD, DEP, IARC, NFPA & EPA. Benzene is a known human carcinogen and genotoxicant with no known safe level of exposure. Occupational and public exposure occurs mainly from petroleum products and vehicle emissions affecting the skin and respiratory organs. The best estimate of the Lowest Observed Adverse Effect Level (LOAEL) for hematotoxicity in humans is 7.6 ppm benzene in air. Leukaemia risk increases significantly at occupational exposure of just 1.25 ppm. Estimated lifetime leukaemia risk is around 2 additional cases per 100,000 people for each 1 ppm increase in levels of benzene in air. Current average exposure is estimated at 5-15 ppm for the general urban population where aerosol sprays are prevalent.
