Pistons
A piston's main purpose is to convert thermal energy into mechanical energy by moving within a cylinder. It transfers the force from expanding gases (created by combustion) to the crankshaft via a connecting rod, which then creates rotational motion. The piston also seals the cylinder with piston rings and helps dissipate heat.
Swash
A swash plate is a mechanical device used to convert rotational motion into reciprocating motion or to control the pitch of rotor blades. Its main usages include hydraulic axial piston pumps and motors, where it controls fluid output by adjusting the stroke of pistons, and helicopter rotor systems, where it controls the pitch of individual rotor blades to manipulate the aircraft's motion.
