Ultrasafe Permanent Earthing System Vs Conventional Earthing System: Parameters Ultrasafe ZoGEM Other Backfill materials Resistivity Ultra-low resistivity upto 0.04 Ω‐m. Resistivity 1 Ω‐m and above. pH Range 6.9 – 7.2 (Neutral range) Most of materials are alkaline with high pH. Conduction Electronically conductive like metals. Ionic-based conduction, dependent on moisture. Environmental suitability & Installation Suitable for all types of soils like hilly terrains, made up ground, rocky soils, etc. Installation is easy as only a borehole is required. Not suitable for all types of soils. Installation is difficult in rocky soil, hilly terrains as it needs wide excavation. Performance Constant high conductivity in all environments. Does not leach or get washed away even in wet soils. Backfill compound dissolves in water and hence fails to provide safe discharge over a period of time. This leads to lot of fluctuations. Corrosion No corrosion since metal rod is embedded in inert condition. Pipes corrode due to moisture & heat after a period of time. Maintenance & Life Maintenance-free performance. Does not required watering for 35-40 years. Requires watering and frequent recharge of backfill compound. Has to be replaced in 7-8 Years Cost Initial cost is higher than conventional earthing but maintenance cost is zero. The overall cost is higher than Ultrasafe earthing considering the frequent recharge and maintenance.
