Surendranagar District is located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat and is widely known as the gateway to Saurashtra. The district headquarters, Surendranagar city, serves as the main administrative and commercial center of the region. The city was originally known as Wadhwan Camp during British rule and was later renamed after Maharaja Surendrasinhji, who played a key role in its development. Strategically, Surendranagar is located between Ahmedabad and Rajkot, two major industrial cities, making it an important trade and transport hub. Nearby towns and villages such as Wadhwan, Joravarnagar, Ratanpar, and Dhudhrej are closely connected to the main city. Surendranagar district was formed after Independence by merging several princely states such as Wadhwan, Dhrangadhra, Limbdi, Sayla, and others. Earlier known as Jhalawad, the region was ruled by Jhala Rajputs and has a rich cultural and historical legacy. Since 1948, Surendranagar has remained the main district center and continues to play an important role in the development of the Saurashtra region.
