In 2015, two bar owners in Delhi, Anand Virmani and Vaibhav Singh, noticed a lack of exciting gin brands in India, a country where gin and tonic was invented and exotic botanicals are common. Driven by this gap, they decided to create their own gin. Aparajita Ninan joined them to help visualize the brands. They experimented with a lab still, attended a Craft Distilling Conference in the UK, and convinced Dr. Anne Brock to travel to Goa to teach them proper gin-making. They set up a small distillery in Goa with a copper pot still named Agotha. On September 30, 2016, they officially launched Greater Than, India's first craft gin, initially available in Goa and Bangalore. Hapusa, the world's first Himalayan Dry Gin, followed soon after. The company has since expanded its reach to 5 states in India and 10 countries, with the UK, Italy, and Singapore leading exports. They have also launched limited edition gins like Juniper Bomb and No Sleep (infused with cold brew coffee). Hapusa has won a Gold medal at the IWSC, and Nao Spirits was recognized among the International top 5 Gin producers of the year by IWSC.
