Established in 1922 as Hukum Chand Electric Steel Co, later renamed as Bhartia Electric Steel Company Limited, the company began as an ingot making and jobbing foundry unit. In 1959, the Tantia Family purchased controlling interest and has been running it since. The management expanded from a small foundry to manufacturing railway parts in bulk, then Centre Buffer Couplers, Draft Gears, and 3-piece Cast Steel Bogies for Indian Railways in association with American Steel Foundries and Cardwell Westinghouse of USA. In 1994-95, the company moved into forward integration, starting the manufacture of complete wagons. Today, they are one of the largest manufacturers in India and serve as a one-stop solution provider to Indian Railways.
