Our roots go even deeper—to the early 1900s—when our founding family entered the metal trade through Jugmandar Dass Shital Prasad, pioneering the distribution and import of metals across Northern India. During World War II, faced with import restrictions, we boldly entered manufacturing under the name Saru Smelting & Refining Corporation, setting up plants in Meerut and Calcutta. Overcoming challenges such as limited machinery, raw material shortages, and almost no trained manpower, SARU emerged as one of the first Indian businesses to manufacture non-ferrous alloys, supplying critical materials to the defence sector and other vital industries. The name SARU itself stands for Standard Alloys Reliable and Unequalled, a reflection of our founding philosophy: delivering quality under all circumstances.
