MAHATHA PETROLEUM PRIVATE LIMITED (formerly MAHATHA PETROCHEMICALS) has been one of the pioneers in the field of petroleum processing, refining and developing of new products ever since its inception in the year 1969. The company was founded and started by the well - known renowned Petroleum Technologist, Late Sri K.S. Ananthanarayanan, B.Sc., A.M. Institute of Petroleum Technology (London - 1935), who worked as Chief Chemist of M/s.Asiatic Petroleum Co. (SS) Ltd., ( Shell Group ), Singapore, from the year 1932 in their Central Laboratory at Kallang. During the Second World War he was selected by the Defence Department of the Japanese Military Administration for their R & D work on substitute fuels and lubricants from indigenous sources other than Mineral Oil as a wartime exigency and he was in-charge of "ABURA KOJO" Oil factory. With such a vast experience of nearly four decades with total dedication and well conversant with petroleum and its ramifications Sri K.S. Ananthanarayanan had been guiding this organisation exclusively as a Technical Consultant in a Supervisory Capacity till 1998. After the demise of Sri. K.S. Ananthanarayanan during April, 1998, his son Sri K.A. Thirrupathi, B.Sc., (Chemistry) who had been associated with him as working partner in this industry from 1975, had taken over the charge as Managing Director and sole in-charge for this organisation and its manufacturing and other management activities by virtue of his vast experience and service in this field. With effect from 1st April 2002, the Firm - Mahatha Petrochemicals – has been converted to a Private Limited Company as MAHATHA PETROLEUM PRIVATE LIMITED.
