Space Frame Structures

Space frames provide a lightweight solution to the problem of creating large span enclosures free from obstructions. The conventional steel structures can cross large spans only in one direction but space frames can cross large spans in both directions. This gives great versatility and freedom to the designer in the selection of structural system. Since the self-weight of space frame is small, greater economy is gained in the substructures as an added advantage. Space frames can be designed in all kinds of forms such as prismatic, cylindrical and spherical in horizontal and vertical geometric shapes. Therefore, it is possible to integrate space frames in the architectural designs of various building types in all industrial and commercial areas.
